Clippers and Magic Discussing Potential Arron Afflalo Deal

The Los Angeles Clippers fell short of their ultimate goal this past season and are looking to upgrade at key positions over the next couple months. Some reports suggest that they have had internal discussions about the potential of bringing LeBron James in, but that’s a scenario that’s playing out in NBA cities all around the Association.

Like every other team chasing a star, the Clippers are looking at potential back-up plans. This is where Orlando Magic guard Arron Afflalo comes into play. According to  Ramona Shelburne of ESPN, these two teams have had discussions regarding the veteran.

Sources said the team has engaged in trade discussions this spring with the Orlando Magic regarding shooting guard Arron Afflalo. Those conversations were initially rebuffed by the Magic, who didn’t like the package of assets the Clippers could offer, sources said. However, there was some sense the clubs could revisit those talks later if they morphed into a three-team discussion.

Assets that the Clippers could move elsewhere in a potential Afflalo deal include Matt Barnes and J.J Redick. It’s highly unlikely that either player would interest the magic. In addition to that, Los Angeles possesses the 28th pick in the draft tomorrow.

Afflalo has also been linked to the Sacramento Kings and Oklahoma City Thunder thus far this offseason. He averaged 18.2 points per game in a stellar 2013-2014 campaign for the Magic.
