Report: Mike Dunleavy Candidate for New York Knicks Job

After missing out on Steve Kerr to the Golden State Warriors, it appears that the New York Knicks are setting their sights on a veteran NBA head coach who has been missing from the bench for some time now.

According to ESPN, the Knicks met with Mike Dunleavy on Friday morning.

While one source close to the situation said Dunleavy is not at the top of Jackson’s list, the source acknowledged he is indeed a candidate.

Dunleavy, who has coached four NBA teams over 17 years, is also a candidate for the Los Angeles Lakers’ open job, according to a source.

Dunleavy last coached in the NBA for the Los Angeles Clippers in 2008-2009. He was fired after a 21-28 start. A 17-year veteran of the NBA bench, Dunleavy has coached the Los Angeles Lakers, Milwaukee Bucks, Portland Trail Blazers and Clippers throughout his career.

Wouldn’t this be seen as a lateral move for a franchise that is looking to improve its presence on the bench? Maybe that’s why Dunleavy isn’t considered Jackson’s primary target.
