Report: Cleveland Browns Will not Select Johnny Manziel

This might be silly rumor season around the National Football League, especially with less than 50 hours to go until the draft, but Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer is someone you listen to when he talks. The respected journalist indicated on a radio show today that the Cleveveland Browns were not going to select Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel this week.

Remember it was just on Monday that Chris Mortensen over at ESPN reported that the Browns were likely going to pick Manziel at No. 4 overall. Without getting into semantics here, Glazer’s track record is a tad better than that of the resepcted ESPN scribe.

As it relates to where the Browns might go with the fourth pick, this most recent report makes a ton of sense. I have been indicating for weeks now that they like Derek Carr more than Manziel. While it’s too early to tell whether the Browns would “reach” for the Fresno State quarterback at four, he apparently seems to be their top choice at the quarterback position.

Cleveland also possesses the 26th overall pick in the draft by virtue of the Trent Richardson trade early last season. It could look to move up into the teens and select Carr there.

In any event, I am willing to take Glazer’s word on this.
