The Greatest Curse-Filled Tirades in Sports

Chris Berman

The Sally Field vs Julia Roberts Curse Off on Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show gave us here at Sportsnaut somewhat of an interesting idea. What are the great curse-filled tirades in sports history?

ESPN’s Chris Berman is none too happy about people moving behind the scenes as he prepares for a Monday Football Contest. Warning the level of NSFW language in this one is real.

Don’t ask Hal McRae all “these stupid A** f**ing questions.”

“Lovable losers.” Not too sure about that. Former Chicago Cubs manager Lee Elia took offense to fans who were heckling his then 5-14 Cubs team back in 1983. Our parents always told us that when you curse too much, it shows your lack intelligence. If that’s the case, Elia has the vocabulary of a four-year-old kid. WOW. Warning extreme NSFW language here.

Former MLB player Wally Backman, then the manager for the South Georgia Peanuts, a independent league team, decided it made sense to lay into his players during a playoff game loss. While this was the Peanuts only year in existence, they will alway live in our memory simply because of this tirade.

Tommy Lasorda is none too happy about the technical difficulties these reporters were having prior to interviewing him. The best part of this video? One tells Tommy to “think happy thoughts.” Cues Tony Robbins.

“I don’t think he’s pleased.”

“Oh Tiger…bite.”

Then you have the amazing Jerry Burns, who coached the Minnesota Vikings from 1986 to 1991. The stuttering aside, Burns was so angry here he couldn’t even finish some of his curse words. The best part is at the end where Burns just drops the mic with a expletive.

In the end, the larger question was posed by Julia Roberts, who wants to know why she’s in a “curse-off with the Flying Nun?”
