2014 NFL Draft: Jacksonville Jaguars Sitting Pretty

The Houston Texans are apparently not open to trading out of the first overall pick tonight. If that’s the case, Jadeveon Clowney is likely going to be the pick. This leaves the St. Louis Rams on the board with the second pick. Assuming they don’t shock the football world and go Johnny Manziel, they are likely going to go offensive tackle with that selection.

If so, the Jacksonville Jaguars are pretty much in a no-lose situation with the third pick. They could go in a number of different directions. They have been linked to Khalil Mack, Johnny Manziel and Sammy Watkins. If a team is interested in one of those three players, there is a strong chance that it will have to call the Jaguars in an attempt to avoid losing out on said target.

This gives the Jaguars numerous options in a potential trade-down scenario.

It’s all about what the Jaguars decide to do when they’re about to be on the clock here in less than an hour. If they have a potential target etched in stone, it’s a strong possibility that nothing of substance in terms of trade talk works out. With that said, Jacksonville could very well play it close to the vest and force another team behind it in the top 10 to pony up a decent bounty in order to move up to No. 3 overall.

That’s where the Atlanta Falcons, who are said to be targeting Khalil Mack, might come into play.

In any event, get excited. The NFL draft is just a mere minutes away. Expect the unexpected.
