2014 NFL Draft: Houston Texans Want a Bounty For No. 1 Overall Pick

The Houston Texans are going to have to lower their reported asking price if they want to trade out of the No. 1 spot in the first round of the 2014 NFL draft tonight. According to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, their asking price for that top pick is absurd.

So the Texans want two first-round picks and a second-round pick just to swap positions in the opening round tonight. I hate to break it to general manger Rick Smith, but that’s just not going to happen. In a draft as deep as this with no consensus No. 1 overall pick, the value Houston would receive if it traded out of that spot would be less than in recent years. Teams are sure the heck not going to give up more than what is deemed reasonable. That’s only reserved for drafts where there are franchise quarterbacks at the top.

At the end of the day, I fully expect Houston to stand pat with the first overall pick and select defensive end Jadeveon Clowney. It’s the only reasonable thing to do with that pick outside of trading down.
