2014 NFL Draft: Cleveland Browns Picking Johnny Manziel At No. 4?

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen expects the Cleveland Browns to select Johnny Manziel with the fourth overall pick if he is available on Thursday night. This is somewhat of a surprise for those of us who have heard that they are higher on Derek Carr than Manziel.

We are also at the point in the draft process where smoke is thrown the media’s way in order for teams to throw their rivals off. The reason for that is simple. If another team lower on the draft board is interested in Manziel, Cleveland just made it think long and hard about trading up with the Browns to secure the former Heisman Tropy winner.

There is also another report out there that indicates Cleveland is interested in acquiring a third first-round pick. That would likely include a trade down from the No. 4 slot and then another trade up to the bottom of the first day. Considering the current dynamic atop the draft, that potential could be to nab a signal caller later on day one. The San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks are prime trade-down candidates.
