DeAngelo Williams High On Himself As First-Round Fantasy Draft Pick

Carolina Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams’ name doesn’t exactly come to mind when planning your first-round draft pick in fantasy football. However, Williams seems to think he is a prime choice come fantasy football season.

CBS Sports shared this comment made by Williams:

I joked with people that my fantasy value went up after we got rid of our four receivers, but it’s the truth…I went from probably being drafted in the fifth and sixth round to being in the first round — me and Jonathan (Stewart) alike because we have no receivers.

While it is true that the Panthers nearly wiped their slate clean of receivers earlier this year, and signed just a couple of veterans, I still don’t believe Williams is worthy of a first-round draft pick on my fantasy football team. There are far too many touchdowns ran in by Cam Newton himself which puts a huge dent into Williams and Stewart’s value.

Then, add in the “Kool Aid” man, Mike Tolbert, who is often used in fourth downs, and who had seven total touchdowns to Williams four last year and the story tells itself. Newton and Tolbert aren’t leaving anytime soon.

Of course Williams bold statement, kidding or not, raked in all kinds of comments:
