A’s Angel Is A Center Fuld

The Oakland Athletics organization is very unique to say the least. I’m not just saying this because I have spent a few nights under the lights of O.co Coliseum in Section 149, but because…well it’s the Oakland Athletics. A name that isn’t too unique is Sam Fuld. He’s making his presence known on the field, and at the plate.

Sam Fuld wasn’t a name that was necessarily being thrown around in Oakland. The outfielder was being overshadowed by Josh Reddick, Coco Crisp, and Yoenis Cespedes, and even Craig Gentry before an injury.

Things started out rough for Reddick, so (pun very much intended) Sam Fuld stepped up to the plate. And when the 32 year-old stepped up to the plate, he made some noise.

On April 2nd, during a game against Cleveland, Fuld finished the game with a .500 batting average. (two hits, a triple, one RBI). And then the tweets came:

It was almost as if this guy came out of nowhere. A lot of A’s fans, and I’m sure Bob Melvin too, were not too pleased with Josh Reddick (who is hitting with a .103 average since the beginning of the season according to oakland.athletics.mlb.com).

Fuld was in the starting lineup for the green and gold Monday, and again in Thursday’s game against the Twins. This was also perfect timing considering starting center fielder Coco Crisp has been out with a wrist injury. According to rotoworld.com, he could be back as early as Friday. A’s fans forgot about this minor bump in the road when Sam Fuld went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer that ultimately help Oakland sweep the Twins.

In other news, here’s Joe Mauer with his twin daughters. Joe Mauer plays for the TWINS, and he has twins. I know, I know.
