Roger Goodell Says There's Interest In Expanding The NFL Playoffs

Do NFL owners make more money if the NFL playoff field grows from 12 to 14? Yes! Of course there’s going to be interest from the owners to expand the playoffs, because they want more money! Per ESPN, Roger Goodell says that 2014 may not be the year to expand the playoffs, but that there’s interest.

The proposed idea would expand the playoffs to 14 teams. Answer this: what does another team from each conference really do to the playoff system? The top teams already get byes. The lower seeds have had some success in recent years, but the NFL has to be careful not to become the NBA and NHL.

Too many fans, the NBA/NHL has too many teams making the playoffs under their current formats. Especially given the way the Western Conference is dominating the Eastern Conference in the NBA this year, it makes for an empty feeling if teams how are better miss out, while poor teams make it in. I’m sure the idea of 14 wouldn’t be that big of a shock, but we all know where this road leads.

If there’s money to be had, the NFL is going to find it.
