Respected New Orleans Saints running back Darren Sproles was said to become a salary cap casualty, as reported last week. In an interesting and somewhat disturbing turn of events Sproles himself found out via Twitter that he was on the trade block and would likely be traded instead of released.
Let’s start from the beginning.
Late last week, Sproles sent out a tweet that thanked the Saints organization. This came on the heels of various reports indicating that he would be released.
Thank you New Orleans for your support over the past 3 years! I will always be forever grateful. #WhoDat

Then comes the news today…
WOW! “@ESPNNFL: THIS JUST IN: Saints now plan to trade RB Darren Sproles due to heavy interest. He will not be released.

Sproles expanded on his one word replay, which showed him to be rather surprised by the news.

The Saints do know that they’re messing with an individual’s livelihood, right? For a good five days, Sproles figured he’d get to choose from multiple cities in which to relocate his family and his life to.
In the matter of one tweet from ESPN, that all changed. Sometimes as fans and writers we tend to forget these players are still human beings. I only wish organizations like the Saints treated them as such.
Not a good look, New Orleans.
