MLB: Lingerie, Tigers And Braves…Oh My!

We are down to just a few days left until Opening Day is upon us. (Which is my second favorite holiday, next to the Victoria’s Secret Semi-Annual Sale). The closer we get to the big day, the more moves that are being made in the MLB. Let’s take a look at some that just happened this week:

If it’s one thing I’m used to, it’s being turned down. Starling Marte and I are on the same wave length. On Monday, the 25 year-old outfielder turned down a six-year contract offer from the Pittsburgh Pirates. According to Jon Heyman, earlier in the spring the Bucs agreed with Marte on a $512,600 salary 2014, which is $12,600 above the minimum.

Last season, Marte concluded with a .280 batting average, 12 home runs and 143 hits at the plate.

In no surprise fashion, the Tigers are in talks that they will sign Triple Crown Winner Miguel Cabrera to a contract extension. Cabrera is eligible for free agency after 2015, according to CBS Sports.

Stephen Drew is still unemployed. Just a couple days ago, Drew’s agent, Scott Boras, told Peter Gammons Drew has a three-year, $39 million offer on the table, according to rotoworld.com. Of course the Yankees were in consideration. After all, what’s the natural thing to do but leave the Red Sox to go to the Yankees?

Though Drew could be a good “what-if” scenario if something were to happen to precious baby angel Derek Jeter, it’s looking like Stephen will not be sporting pinstripes come 2014. Time is running out for the 31 year-old. Even after winning the World Series last season with Boston, and some solid defense, it’s starting to look scary for the guy.

The Atlanta Braves have added a pitcher to their rotation. Veteran right-hander Aaron Harang. He finished the season with the Mets last year with a 5-12 record. In 143.1 innings pitched, the 35 year-old accumulated a 5.40 ERA with 113 strike-outs.

This comes right after the release of righty pitcher Freddy Garcia.
