Jets Considering Bringing Mark Sanchez Back. This Is Why They’re The Jets

Mark Sanchez has accounted for 36 interceptions and 16 lost fumbles in his last 31 starts. For those who aren’t good at math, that’s about 1.7 turnovers per game during that span. He’s also set to count $13.1 million against the cap in 2014, a number that would make him 14th among active quarterbacks in average salary.

Despite all of this and a solid out that would enable the Jets to release him with just $4.8 in dead money this season, they might be looking at retaining his services to either compete with or back up Geno Smith.

This is what’s wrong with your New York Jets, ladies and gents.

Even if the Sanchez were to agree to a restructured deal, which would have to happen for the Jets not to release him, this makes absolutely no sense.

Mr “Butt Fumble” himself doesn’t figure into the Jets’ long-term plans and would only add questions about Smith’s security as the starting quarterback. If the Jets are willing to find competition, why not do it in the form of a exterior free-agent candidate that would bring new blood into the organization? Say Kellen Clemens as an example.

We want to give the benefit of the doubt to second-year GM John Idzik, but this move would make absolutely no sense. Sanchez is a dumpster fire at this point. Do the Jets want to continue being linked to that? If so, they are the real dumpster fire in this situation.
