David Carr Syndrome: Texans Going After Ryan Mallett, Afraid To Draft Another QB

With the No. 1 overall pick and a high second-round pick in the 2014 NFL draft two months from now, it’s easy to come to the conclusion that Houston will draft a quarterback early on. According to Pro Football Central, who had the information first, the Texans are interested in trading for Ryan Mallett.

Mallett was a third-round pick of the New England Patriots back in 2011 and has attempted four career passes in three seasons as Tom Brady’s primary backup. He came to the NFL with a ton of fanfare and has the talent to be a starting QB in the NFL. That said, he’s still a relative unknown. New England is said to be looking for a high-round pick in return.

It makes little sense for the Texans to spend that bounty when they have a ton of options in the draft this upcoming May. Is it possible that the organization is still reeling from the whole David Carr dumpster fire of 13 years ago? After all, it hasn’t had a homegrown starting quarterback since.
