Teams like the 49ers tend to wait until the second wave of free agency to make whatever impact they’re going to make. Apparently the second wave this year begins on the first week of free agency itself. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, San Francisco will host Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman tomorrow…
Patriots free-agent WR Julian Edelman is scheduled to visit the 49ers on Friday, per source. SF also interested in Giants WR Hakeem Nicks.

Despite retaining Anquan Boldin on a two-year, $12 million contract earlier this month, San Francisco is said to be interested in adding a veteran receiver to the mix. The interest in Edelman could be two fold, as LaMichael James, who served in a special teams capacity after the Kyle Williams release last season, may be on his way out of town.
Schefter also reported that San Francisco is interested in New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks. We indicated an interest in Nicks earlier in the afternoon, but that was more in broad strokes. His report confirms a 49ers’ interest.
San Francisco is also meeting with Seattle Seahawks cornerback Walter Thurmond III, who indicated he was on his way to The Bay Area via Twitter earlier in the day.
Great visit with Gus and the Jaguars Organization, some good people. They’re headed in the right direction. Now off to San Fran.
