New York Giants hire Brian Daboll as head coach

New York Giants, Brian Daboll

The New York Giants are reportedly closing in on hiring Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll, landing one of the best NFL coaching candidates to take over as their head coach.

New York fired Joe Judge after two seasons, completely reshaping the organization with a clean slate at general manager and head coach. After hiring Joe Schoen to take over football operations, the Giants’ general manager appears set to hire a coach with whom he already boasts a strong relationship.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports, the Giants and Daboll are working towards a contract to officially make him the next head coach. While a deal isn’t finalized New York is expected to finish it in a move that will keep Daboll from the Miami Dolphins.

Daboll is credited for his outstanding work with quarterback Josh Allen, one of the greatest player developments in recent memory. An erratic passer in college and early in his NFL career, Allen is now one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL and will be a top MVP candidate in 2023.

While there is plenty of work to be done, Brian Daboll is walking into a solid situation. Schoen has a great track record with draft picks and New York holds a pair of top-10 picks in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Bringing Daboll in is great news for Daniel Jones, who will try to prove he can be a starting quarterback for a good team.
