Future Hall of Famer Jason Witten admits he might leave the Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys are going through some dramatic changes after hiring Mike McCarthy to replace former head coach Jason Garrett. That could potentially include 11-time Pro Bowl tight end Jason Witten departing Big D after 16 seasons with the team

Witten, 37, just recently spoke at The Star in Frisco Tuesday night and seemingly hinted that a departure from Dallas could be in the cards.

“I just think, yeah, coaching is in my future, but right now, I want to play while I can,” Witten said, via David Helman of the team’s official website. “We’ll see where that takes place. Of course, I want that to be with the Dallas Cowboys. I’ll always be a Dallas Cowboy. But I also understand that, with all the changes, I may have to go somewhere else.”

Witten ended his one-year retirement this past season. He ultimately caught 63 passes for 529 yards with four touchdowns. Though, the presence of McCarthy in Dallas could very well change the dynamic here.

Adding to the intrigue is the fact that Garrett is now the New York Giants’ offensive coordinator. Could that lead to a reunion between the two on one of the Cowboys’ fiercest rivals? Stranger things have happened.

Witten is slated to become a free agent in less than a month and will have unlimited options on the open market should he decide a divorce with the Cowboys is in the cards.
