Sister of Western Michigan TE thought game was over when she rushed field

Western Michigan

One of the best moments from college football Week 6 was Western Michigan’s 7OT victory over Buffalo, and there was a funny moment in the game, too. Broncos tight end Donnie Ernsberger caught a touchdown in the first overtime to tie the game, 38-38. While he was celebrating with his teammates, his sister somehow showed up in the mix to celebrate with him (watch here).

It was funny for most of us. Apparently, she thought the touchdown was the game-winner.

“I was astonished that she got down there so fast,” Donnie said, per The Buffalo News. “I was in disbelief that she was there before all of my teammates.”

Even though the Broncos had no control over the situation, they were penalized 15 yards for unsportsmanlike conduct. The players argued with the refs about it, to no avail.

“All my teammates and coaches were just trying to explain to the refs that it wasn’t a penalty because it’s uncontrollable by us,” he said. “Afterward they laughed about it and were still happy and ready to go for the next overtime.

“She was excited for her brother, and it just shows the family love we have,” Donnie said.

In the end, it mattered not. The Broncos would outlast their opponent, winning by the score of 71-68 in the seventh overtime period when Jarvion Franklin ran it in from 12 yards out. It tied the longest game in FBS history and featured outstanding offensive performances by players on both teams.
