Report: Eli Manning had X-ray on neck following Sunday’s loss

New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning in NFL Week 1

The winless New York Giants are suddenly a walking MASH unit. On the heels of the team confirming star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. suffered a fracture ankle in Sunday’s loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, comes this bit of disturbing news.

According to Gary Myers and Pat Leonard of the NY Daily News, quarterback Eli Manning underwent an X-ray on his neck after being kneed in the head by offensive tackle Ereck Flowers late in the game.

There is, however, a bit of good news here.

“Eli Manning had an X-ray performed on his neck across from the Giants’ locker room after Sunday’s loss to the Chargers, the Daily News has learned, but it came out clean,” the two scribes reported.

Manning didn’t appear to be in any pain during a post-game press conference, so the conclusion here has to be that he will be fine. Then again, we’re talking about the neck. No matter how minor an injury might look initially, there’s a chance something could pop up later.

In addition to losing OBJ for likely the remainder of the season, fellow receivers Brandon Marshall, Sterling Shepard and Dwayne Harris were lost in Sunday’s game.

Now at 0-5 on the season, the Giants are a complete and utter mess. Let’s just hope that Manning’s streak of not missing a game since taking over as the team’s starter back in 2004 doesn’t come to an end here. That would add insult to injury, quite literally.
