The NFL reportedly announced on Tuesday that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Miami Dolphins game — originally scheduled for Miami on Sunday — will not be played in South Beach due to the increased threat of Hurricane Irma making landfall in Florida over the weekend.

This is a move that the league needed to make. There was absolutely no reason to risk the safety of players and fans alike. Whether the game itself is played at a neutral location this weekend or in Miami later in the season remains to be seen.

Though, rescheduling the game is helped by the fact that both teams have the same bye week. This has led to speculation that the game will now take place in the middle of November in Miami.

Fresh off the destruction Texas saw due to Hurricane Harvey this past week, Irma itself is currently a Category 5 and is larger than the entire state of Ohio. It could very well hit the Miami area on Saturday, leading to damage on a widespread scale.

We will have further updates on this situation as they become available.
