Le’Veon Bell on precipice of amazing Steelers record

With just three more catches on Sunday when the Pittsburgh Steelers take on the Chicago Bears, Le’Veon Bell will set a franchise record. A rather stunning one, if you ask us.

As pointed out by Dom Rinelli, the PR/Media manager of the Steelers, Bell has caught 234 passes in his first 49 games. The franchise record for most receptions by any player at any position in his first 50 games is currently held by Antonio Brown, who caught 236 in that span.

So, if Bell is able to haul in three passes on Sunday, this running back will have passed one of the franchise’s most prolific receiver in the history books.

It’s pretty stunning. We all know how special Bell is. He averaged 157 yards per game last year in the 12 he played, which is absurd. Even counting his slow start this season (seven catches for 19 yards) he has averaged 4.78 receptions for 41 yards per game so far in his young career.

Many receivers cannot claim the same consistent production. And receiving the ball is only one of the reasons Bell is such a unique player. He’s also one of the truly elite running backs (as a runner) in the game today.

No wonder he was reported as wanting to be paid like a No. 1 running back plus what a No. 2 receiver would make.

For now, Bell will just have to focus on getting back into football shape following his holdout this summer. He’ll earn just over $12 million this year on the franchise tag. But you can bet he’ll be earning a lot more than that per season next year, especially once he gets back into his groove.
