J.J. Watt: Fundraising efforts have topped $20 million

J.J. Watt

On Sunday, August 27, Houston Texans star J.J. Watt set a fundraising goal of $200,000 to help the Houston area rebuild from Hurricane Harvey’s devastation. A little more than a week later, Watt announced that the fundraising efforts have now topped $20 million.

“We set out last Sunday with a goal of $200,000. Every single day since then has been a reminder of how much good that there is out there in the world,” Watt said. “How when times are tough and things look bleak, people step up to help their fellow human. It has truly been an incredible spectacle to watch and I can not thank everybody enough for sharing, donating, and doing whatever you possibly can to help this cause.”

The sports world has really come together in this cause. Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones donated $1 million to the Salvation Army, while Tennessee Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk has added $1 million to Watt’s cause.

Much more is still needed, however. If you want to contribute to Watt’s effort, click here.
