Browns DT T.Y. McGill charged with possession of marijuana

Mere hours before he was picked up off waivers from the Indianapolis Colts, Cleveland Browns defensive tackle T.Y. McGill was charged with possession of marijuana in Charlotte, North Carolina.

“Alcohol Law Enforcement agent Omar Qureshi was conducting surveillance at the Westin Hotel uptown around 12:15 a.m. Saturday when he saw McGill in the hotel’s valet area with ‘a small amount’ of marijuana,” The Charlotte Observer reported Tuesday. “Qureshi said McGill initially denied having the marijuana, but soon was cooperative.”

McGill was not arrested, but was charged with with misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

Cleveland ultimately picked the former North Carolina State standout up off waivers the following day.

For their part, the Browns could not be reached for comment and McGill’s agents refused to talk about the situation with The Observer.

McGill, an undrafted free agent back in 2015, played a total of 25 games in two seasons with the Colts. It remains to be seen whether this incident will cost him a job in Cleveland.
