Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jarvis Landry is under investigation for battery, but the legal process has no clear end in sight.
Head coach Adam Gase said “I have no idea” when asked if he was optimistic there would be a positive or speedy resolution, according to Adam H. Beasley of the Miami Herald.
Though Landry’s status for the 2017 season is uncertain, he has not been suspended by the team. Depending on the outcome of the investigation, the NFL could punish him for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. That part is entirely out of Gase’s control.
“It’s a league matter. As soon as when we found out about everything it’s turned right over to the league and that’s where they come into play. There is nothing really we can do about it. We’re really just waiting to hear what the league says to us and then we’ll kind of move on from there.”
Landry would be subject to a six-game suspension if the league finds he committed the act, no matter if he’s formally charged with a crime.
Early in August, the first report emerged that Landry was being investigated for an alleged incident involving his girlfriend. Recently, an update said the NFL is in possession of a video.
In the meantime, Landry will prepare for the team’s regular-season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Trade rumors swirled around the fourth-year receiver, but Gase said Landry will not be moved. He caught 94 passes for 1,136 yards and four touchdowns last season.
