Suns rookie doesn’t expect to be traded for Kyrie Irving

Kyrie Irving of the Cleveland Cavaliers gets sexy with Rudy Gobert of the Utah Jazz

The Phoenix Suns are one of the many teams that have shown interest in disgruntled Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving. The team was reportedly willing to help facilitate an Irving deal to another squad. Then, in an interesting turn of events, Phoenix itself got into the bidding war for the All-Star’s services.

Though, Phoenix has remained steadfast that nether Devin Booker or rookie Josh Jackson would be included in a trade for Irving.

For his part, the No. 4 overall pick in June’s draft seems to be taking his team’s words to heart.

“I think if that (a trade) was going to happen, it would’ve happened by now,” Jackson said on SiriusXM NBA Radio. “A little talking to my agent, not really checking social media, because that’t not the way to go. People just say whatever. I handled it the same way I tried to handle Draft Night.”

While Irving’s request for a trade from Cleveland was not made public until July, he had apparently told the team about his stance leading up to June’s draft.

For his part, Jackson doesn’t seem to be too worried about the rumors.

“Coming in, I didn’t know what was going to happen, I still don’t know what is going to happen,” Jackson continued. “I’m going to make the most of whatever situation I’m presented with. If I’m traded to China, whatever, I’m gonna come out, I’m gonna be happy, just try to make the best of it.”

Jackson, a one-year star at Kansas, figures to play a prominent role for a talented young Suns team this upcoming season. His presence should take a lot of pressure off Booker, who shined big time last season in the desert.

None of this means that Jackson himself won’t be dealt for Irving. Phoenix will have to yield some solid assets to acquire the All-Star. But, at least for now, his career in Phoenix doesn’t appear to be short-lived.
