Report: Trevor Siemian takes lead in Broncos’ QB competition

Paxton Lynch and Trevor Siemian warming up before a Broncos game

Earlier in training camp, it appeared that neither Trevor Siemian nor Paxton Lynch were standing out in the battle for the Denver Broncos’ starting quarterback job. In fact, head coach Vance Joseph seemed displeased about how each young signal caller was performing.

That changed to an extent during practice on Friday, with multiple media members indicating clearly that Siemian had taken a slight lead over his younger counterpart.

“After failing to secure the starting job with a shrugged-shoulders offseason, Trevor Siemian is beginning to regain his groove. Siemian posted back-to-back strong days at Broncos training camp, creating slight separation in the quarterback derby with an important evaluation looming in Saturday’s scrimmage,” The Denver Channel’s Troy Renck reported Friday evening.

This was backed up by other media members that were in attendance for Friday’s practice.

Denver’s quarterback competition is extremely important in that the team is otherwise a playoff contender. Sure it has issues at running back, but the rest of the roster is absolutely loaded.

Neither Siemian nor Lynch stood out during the 2016 regular season. And up until recently, there really wasn’t much separating the two heading into the 2017 season.

This promises to be a drawn-out process for the Broncos. But for now, it appears that Siemian is in the lead.
