Report: Odell Beckham Jr. receiving laser treatments on ankle

Odell Beckham Jr. Giants

Odell Beckham Jr. will take every measure possible to not miss the regular-season opener for the New York Giants.

Thanks to today’s technology, the star wide receiver’s recovery also includes laser treatments. Gil Brandt, who spent four decades as an executive in the NFL and is now a writer on NFL.com, notes Beckham is undergoing “Thera-Lase cell treatments” in Phoenix, Arizona.

Now what in the world does that mean?

According to the Thera-Lase website, the treatments are “extremely safe and non-invasive” and offer quick relief from inflammation, reduce pain fast and accelerate healing. The “superpulsed laser system can penetrate up to 4 inches into tissue, to promote cellular regeneration at the source of injury.”

We’ll take their word for it.

However, us non-medical types know Beckham has a confirmed ankle sprain after taking a low hit from Briean Boddy-Calhoun of the Cleveland Browns during a preseason game. Beckham is in danger of missing New York’s opener against the rival Dallas Cowboys.

The laser treatments could signal a worry that Beckham and the Giants are truly concerned about his availability. Conversely, the ankle injury might simply be significant enough that an accelerated healing process will reduce, or even eliminate, pain prior to the season.

New York already has an advantage with Cowboys star Ezekiel Elliot being suspended for the game, and tiebreakers may end up deciding the NFC East. Not having Beckham available for the season-opening division showdown would be a tough break for the Giants.
