Report: Jay Cutler to Dolphins ‘picking up steam’

Jay Cutler

We don’t yet know whether starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill will need season-ending surgery on the knee he injured in practice on Thursday. What we do know is that the Miami Dolphins fear that he could very well be out for the season.

When news broke of the injury, the names of two veteran quarterbacks came up in reports. That included former Denver Broncos and Chicago Bears signal caller Jay Cutler and Colin Kaepernick, formerly of the San Francisco 49ers.

It now appears that things are heating up between Cutler and the Dolphins.

This report was seemingly backed up by Jeff Darlington over at ESPN.

As it relates to any interest Miami might have in Kaepernick, that’s somewhat muted by the fact that the highly embattled quarterback was seen defending former Cuban dictator Fidel Castro. In the Cuban-heavy Miami area, this could very well be a non-starter.

Cutler “retired” from the NFL back in the spring to pursue a career in the broadcast booth with Fox. But he never officially sent retirement paperwork into the NFL. He also has familiarity with Adam Gase’s scheme dating back to the Dolphins’ head coach’s time as the Bears’ offensive coordinator.

This most definitely is something to keep an eye on should the Dolphins’ fears of Tannehill needing season-ending surgery come to fruition.
