Ndamukong Suh explains why he has ‘ultimate respect’ for Jay Cutler

Ndamukong Suh being released was one of the biggest stories Monday as the NFL tampering period kicked into high gear

Ndamukong Suh and Jay Cutler used to be bitter rivals when they both played in the NFC North for the Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears, respectively.

During those years, Cutler took some serious abuse at times on hits from Suh, who’s known for being one of the dirtiest players in the league. Not surpringly, Cutler is happy he doesn’t have to face Suh now that they are both members of the Miami Dolphins.

“I’m happy he’s on my team,” Cutler conceded Tuesday, after his first practice as a member of the Miami Dolphins, per Adam H. Beasley of the Miami Herald.

For different reasons, Suh couldn’t be happier to have Cutler on his side, too. He said he has the “ultimate respect”

“I don’t like any quarterbacks, but he was one guy that definitely I had a respect for because he took hits and never cried, never complained and just got up and went and played the next play,” Suh said.

“He’s definitely a tough guy,” Suh added. “He always makes sure he wants to be out there the next week.”

Last season marked the first in Cutler’s career in which he missed significant time with an injury. He only played in five games before injuries took over and forced him to the sideline.

Suh’s comments are interesting, because Cutler is viewed by many as a guy who doesn’t care. Yet he obviously did care enough over the course of his career to take huge hits and keep coming back for more.

The Dolphins got lucky that Cutler was available and willing to return to the field of play after he retired this offseason. Ryan Tannehill appears to be out for the year, and Cutler can step in right away as a guy who’s familiar with head coach Adam Gase’s offense.

Whether that amounts to a repeat of last year, when the Dolphins made the playoffs for the first time since 2008, remains to be seen.
