Mike Zimmer: Michael Floyd has looked ‘pretty dang good’

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Michael Floyd could be in hot water again.

The Minnesota Vikings will be without receiver Michael Floyd for the first four games of the regular season. But in training camp, Floyd has given head coach Mike Zimmer and company something to look forward to when he does return.

“(He’s looked) pretty dang good,” Zimmer said, per Ben Goessling of the Star Tribune. “He’s made probably the most contested of anybody in the camp. He’s a big, physical body, which helps in the run game, and I think he’s done a nice job in the routes. Some of the routes, he’s a little faster than he looks.”

Floyd was arrested towards the end of the 2016 season for a DUI, something that had been an issue going back to college. He was signed by the Vikings in the off-season. But while short, his tenure in Minnesota has not been without controversy.

Floyd failed a breathalyzer test, which was later attributed to him drinking kombucha tea, something the Vikings vouched for. Zimmer has made it clear that if Floyd isn’t telling the truth, his future with the team will not be long.

Floyd is entering his sixth NFL season. He’s generally been a consistent producer, though 2016 was his worst season. Between the Arizona Cardinals and New England Patriots, Floyd caught 37 passes for 488 yards, which were both career lows.
