Jets owner Woody Johnson confirmed as U.S. Ambassador to United Kingdom

The New York Jets front office will be experiencing something of a shakeup in the days and weeks to come. The United States Senate officially confirmed team owner Woody Johnson as the U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom, meaning he will cede control of the team.

This is certainly not without precedent, even in the fairly recent past.

Then president Barack Obama appointed Dan Rooney — the late Pittsburgh Steelers owner — to be the United States Ambassador to Ireland in 2009. Rooney held that position nearly all of Obama’s first term. For as long as he holds the job, Johnson’s role with the Jets will likely be similar to Rooney’s with the Steelers during his ambassadorship.
