Report: Jay Cutler is Dolphins’ top target, even if he’s still reluctant

Jay Cutler

As the Miami Dolphins and quarterback Ryan Tannehill brace for possible season-ending surgery, Jay Cutler reportedly remains the favorite to replace him.

It was reported by Jeff Darlington of ESPN Saturday evening that Cutler is leading towards remaining retired and pursuing a second career as an NFL broadcaster. That’s not stopping the Dolphins from keeping him atop their wish list at this time, however.

The other major name out there with ties to this job opening is Colin Kaepernick. Though, since early on in this developing situation, it’s all shifted to Cutler, who played for Dolphins head coach Adam Gase in Chicago when Gase was the offensive coordinator.

Miami is a playoff-caliber team that made tremendous strides in Gase’s first season at the helm in 2016. With a serviceable quarterback leading the offense, it is a team that could certainly repeat its postseason run from 2016, though we’re not sure Cutler is the man to make it happen.
