The Jacksonville Jaguars have no idea who will be their starting quarterback in 2017. Head coach Doug Marrone made that crystal clear after Blake Bortles’ awful performance Thursday in the team’s second preseason game.
He then doubled down on that sentiment Sunday when, instead of issuing an unofficial depth chart per usual, he did something else.

That’s about as clear-cut a message as a coach can send.
We’ve argued that the Jaguars should come to grips with the fact that Bortles isn’t going to somehow perk up and become a franchise quarterback. In fact, the Jaguars at this point would be smarter to simply cut him this summer or keep him on the sidelines in street clothes to avoid being on the hook for $19 million next year if he gets injured.
As for the placekicker position, the Jaguars brought in Patrick Murray over the weekend to compete with Jason Myers. In two games, he’s hit just one field goal in four attempts. He also missed an extra-point attempt on Thursday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Needless to say, these aren’t the kinds of problems any NFL head coach is going to be excited about with the beginning of the regular season right around the corner.
