Hue Jackson on naming DeShone Kizer starter: ‘It’s trending in that direction’

Browns QB DeShone Kizer impresses in NFL debut.

There is a flurry of activity going around Cleveland Browns camp this Wednesday. Following the news that quarterback Brock Osweiler will not play in the team’s third preseason game, there’s some more juicy information available to the masses.

Head coach Hue Jackson’s comment leads many to believe that rookie DeShone Kizer will be the quarterback starting in Week 1 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

This is what the fans have been calling for. Osweiler has been absolutely hideous under center in the preseason. It is no shocker he will be benched Saturday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He’s also reportedly on the trade block (more on that here).

Kizer should see a large dose of action as the Browns prepare to make their final decision as to who will start in September. The young quarterback has shown promise so far in two game appearances, completing 61.3 percent of his passes for 129 yards and one touchdown. He also added 47 rushing yards and one rushing score.

Kizer has also yet to turn the ball over which is something Osweiler already mastered in just 22 attempts.

There has been little buzz so far about Cody Kessler, who also has looked decent this preseason. But, Kizer is the guy that brings the most excitement and hope to Cleveland. It would appear it is only a short matter of time before Jackson makes his final decision.
