It is never good news initially to see a player get carted off the field in practice. New York Giants second-year wide receiver Sterling Shepard exited practice on a cart Wednesday after injuring his ankle.

The good news here, at least according to Shepard, is his says he expects to be back in Week 1.

Sterling also told reporters that he has a bone bruise in addition to a sprained ankle.

The young receiver seems optimistic about being ready to play in Week 1. Unless there is further news revealed, it appears Shepard has no broken bones.

These are all positive signs that point to Shepard being ready to suit up for a road game at the Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 10.

Shepard, a second-round pick from 2016, recorded 65 receptions for 683 yards and eight touchdowns in his rookie campaign.
