Former Baylor head coach Dave Bliss gets yet another gig

Former Baylor basketball coach Dave Bliss has a new gig.

Disgraced former Baylor basketball coach Dave Bliss seemingly has more lives than your cat. The embattled veteran, who boasts 500 career wins at the college level, has been hired by a Las Vegas high school as its new athletic director and boys basketball coach.

No, really.

“Yes we have (hired Bliss),” said September Wilson, a coach and teacher at Calvary Chapel, via Nevada Preps. “He is our athletic director. He has been brought in by our superintendent.”

That’s a whole lot of crazy right there.

Bliss made the news for all the wrong reasons back in 2003 when he was involved in a scandal involving the murder of basketball player Patrick Dennehy by teammate Carlton Dotson. Following his death, Bliss suggested that Dennehy was a drug dealer as a way to explain away cash payments the program made to him.

Featured in the  Showtime documentary Disgraced this past spring, Bliss was immediately forced to resign from his previous role as Southwestern Christian University’s head coach. Most figured his career was over.

That’s until a local Las Vegas high school decided that Bliss’ track record was significant enough for him to head its athletic program. What could go wrong here?
