Derek Carr not jealous one bit that Matthew Stafford got more money

Derek Carr

Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford dethroned Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr as the highest paid player in the league on Monday.

Somebody will eventually do the same to Stafford, too. But none of that matters to Carr, who is happy for his good buddy.

“Matthew can have all of that,” said Carr of Stafford’s new deal, per Levi Damien of Silver and Black Pride. “I’m happy for him. He’s a good dude and I love talking to him and my reaction to it was ‘Congratulations’ and I hope every quarterback that comes [up for a contract] beats me, beats him, and I just hope that they all just continue to do that.”

Carr not only supports Stafford’s generous raise, but he also hopes the trend will continue (hint: it will). When that happens, it’ll be Stafford’s turn to congratulate the next guy.

Either way, neither quarterback seems to be the type to be driven by dollar signs. When Carr received his new mega-contract — a five-year, $125 million deal — he said he was going to splurge on Chick-fil-A.

Stafford, on the other hand, said his contract ($135 million for five years) will go towards lots of new diapers for his twin baby girls.

Carr’s deal has already gotten the ball rolling for the next quarterbacks in line to get paid. Who is next?
