Cowboys facing fine for second year in a row because of suspended players

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones

The NFL will soon be taxing the Dallas Cowboys in the form of a significant fine due to an excess of players who have been suspended for various reasons.

ESPN’s Todd Archer brought this to our attention, noting Damontre Moore (suspended two games by the league) counted as the third Cowboys player to be suspended this year. The other two are defensive end David Irving (four games) and receiver Shaq Evans, who is no longer with the team but who was suspended in April.

More suspensions could potentially be coming, too, as Ezekiel Elliott is waiting for the NFL to decide whether to punish him or not.

According to Archer, Nolan Carroll and Damien Wilson could both face suspensions, too.

“That could bring the fine to $500,000 — the maximum, per NFL rules,” Archer wrote.

The NFL fined the Cowboys that same amount last year over for the suspensions of Rolando McClain, Randy Gregory and DeMarcus Lawrence.

Needless to say, while Jerry Jones and Co. remain the golden boys in terms of influence within the NFL, the Cowboys need to re-examine how they evaluate players. Unless, of course, the Jones family doesn’t see a problem with this trend.
