LOOK: Akron stores selling LeBron James ‘stay home’ apparel

LeBron James

With rumors swelling that LeBron James may be entering his final year with the Cleveland Cavaliers, a store in Akron is selling merchandise asking him to “stay home.”

The most rampant rumor has been that James will play for the Los Angeles Lakers, but other teams have been in the discussion, as well.

It’s not hard to see why those in Northeast Ohio would want LeBron to stay.

What can’t be overlooked is that, as a son of Akron, he means a lot to the community — far more than your average star. From a pure on-court perspective, the Cavaliers absolutely need LeBron James, too.

LeBron has spent 10 of his 14 seasons in the NBA win Cleveland. In those 10 years, the Cavs have made the playoffs eight times, qualified for the NBA Finals four times, won the city of Cleveland’s first (and to date, only) championship since 1964 and posted a 510-310 record. During his four-year stretch with the Miami Heat, the Cavs were 97-215, never coming close to a playoff spot.

In fact, the last time Cleveland made the playoffs without LeBron James on the team was 1998, five years before he entered the league. The last time the Cavaliers won a playoff series without him was 1992.

With all of that in mind, we really can’t blame those in Northeast Ohio for doing everything they can to try to get James to stay.
