Wolves F Taj Gibson donates $20,000 to child of woman killed by gunmen

Taj Gibson will be a highly sought-after free agent.

The Minnesota Timberwolves added a strong post presence in Taj Gibson during free agency. But that’s not the only thing the upstart Wolves added.

Respected around the NBA for his personality and sense of community, Gibson took to GoFundMe in order to donate $20,000 to the child of a woman that was killed by gunmen outside of a Brooklyn apartment complex earlier this month.

Chynna-Ann Battle, 21, was one of two women shot dead back on July 14th. The two were seemingly innocent bystanders who fell victim to bullets that were meant for someone else.

“Hours after her mother was gunned down outside a Brooklyn housing complex, a 3-year-old girl asked grieving relatives a simple, sorrowful question. ‘Why are you all crying?’ little Amelia wondered.” the NY Daily News reported earlier this month. “The toddler had no idea that her mother, Chynna Battle, 21, was killed in a hail of bullets.”

It’s a tragic story — one that definitely tugs at the heart strings.

Our thoughts go out to all of those impacted. At the very least, they can be comforted by the fact that a man in Gibson felt the need to do what he could to help them through these most difficult times. As of Thursday evening, the GoFundMe page had hit $24,000-plus of its ultimate $30,000 goal.
