A fan unknowingly engineered a hilarious series of events during the Wimbledon Ladies invitational doubles match Friday featuring Kim Clijsters, Rennae Stubbs, Conchita Martinez and Andrea Jaeger.
In the middle of her match against Martinez and Jaeger, Clijsters asked if she should serve wide or down the middle. A fan yelled for her to hit a “body serve.”
That produced plenty of laughter all by itself, but what happened next was truly crazy. Clijsters went over to the man, pointed at him with her racket and bade him come down onto the court. The portly gentleman happily obliged, much to the delight of the crowd in attendance.
Then, because he wasn’t wearing all white, per Wimbledon rules, Clijsters came up with a brilliant solution. She gave him one of her skirts.
Now, it must be noted that this particular gentleman, as we’ve noted, is rather portly, and that might be putting it mildly. However, he once again happily obliged. And after Clijster fell to the ground in laughter, a few grunts later the skirt was on.
Even better, the man played on the court at Wimbledon.
It was a series of events we won’t forget any time soon.
Clearly it was a moment Clijsters won’t soon forget, either.
