Terry Francona released from hospital, resting at home following heart procedure

Cleveland Indians fans will be glad to hear that manager Terry Francona is doing just fine following recent heart surgery.

“The Tribe manager underwent a cardiac ablation on Thursday afternoon to correct an irregular heartbeat,” wrote Zach Meisel of Cleveland.com. “He will not manage the All-Star Game in Miami on Tuesday, but he is expected to rejoin the Indians in time for their weeklong stay in the Bay Area beginning with an optional team workout Thursday.”

Francona has been away from the club since they faced the Detroit Tigers last weekend. He was scheduled to manage the American League squad in the All-Star game but will obviously be recovering from surgery instead.

A rapid heartbeat and lightheadedness forced the 58-year old manager to exit two games earlier this season. Since then, Francona has been wearing a monitor so doctors could analyze his condition.  He had been feeling symptoms (dizziness, accelerated heart rate) for much of the last month.

Doctors admitted him to the hospital on Tuesday after the monitors detected an abnormality. After additional tests Tuesday and Wednesday, the decision was made to go ahead with the procedure on Thursday.
