The Chicago White Sox are reportedly close to striking their second major deal of July. According to multiple reports, Chicago is nearing a deal that would send All-Star third baseman Todd Frazier as well as relievers David Robertson and Tommy Kahnle to the New York Yankees in exchange for prospects.

Frazier, 31, will likely take over as the Yankees’ everyday first baseman with Greg Bird currently on the disabled list and expected to miss a substantial amount of time (more on that here).

The potential acquisition of Frazier comes amid rumors that New York was interested in Oakland Athletics first baseman Yonder Alonso. That’s obviously no longer a possibility.

Despite high strikeout rates and a less-than-stellar batting average, Frazier has proven to be one of the heaviest-hitting infielders in baseball. He hit a career high 40 homers last season in Chicago and is on pace to cross the 30-homer threshold once again in 2017. With that said, Frazier is hitting just .207 with a .328 on-base percentage in 2017. Hopefully for the Yankees, this changes with him now hitting in the Bronx.

For his part, Robertson will likely return to the Yankees after spending 2008-14 with the team. He’s pitching to a 2.70 ERA and 0.96 WHIP thus far on the season. Look for Robertson to fill that eighth-inning role for New York in 2017. It’s also somewhat of a reunion for Frazier, who is from Toms River, New Jersey.

New York also acquires another bullpen arm in the form of Tommy Kahnle, who has been as solid as they come this season. The 27 year old is pitching to a 2.50 with a 0.97 WHIP on the year.

It is, however, important to note that the trade itself is not official. Robertson himself made that clear after reports surfaced it was close to being finalized.

Though, Frazier was pulled from the White Sox’ lineup on Tuesday. It’s a clear indication that a trade in the works. If this were to come to fruition, it would dramatically change the landscape of the American League East moving forward on the season.
