Report: Suns abruptly end pursuit of All-Star Paul Millsap

Linked to Blake Griffin before he re-signed with the Los Angeles Clippers, it previously looked like the Phoenix Suns were attempting to make a big splash in free agency.

That was magnified with reports early Saturday morning that Phoenix was one of the teams hotly in pursuit of four-time All-Star Paul Millsap.

It now looks like Phoenix has dropped out of the bidding and is prepared to focus on its young core.

It makes sense that Phoenix would not want to break the bank with a veteran. It finished last season with the worst record in the Western Conference. But there’s a whole heck of a lot of young talent here, primarily when looking at Devin Booker and rookie top-five pick Josh Jackson.

NBA.com’s David Aldridge went on to report that the Minnesota Timberwolves might also be out on Millsap, potentially paving the way for him to sign with the Denver Nuggets.

Millsap, 32, put up 18.1 points and 7.7 rebounds per game for the Atlanta Hawks last season en route to earning his fourth consecutive All-Star nod.
