Report: Robert Griffin III scheduled to work out with Chargers

Robert Griffin III

After the quietest offseason of his career, Robert Griffin III is finally getting his chance to show his stuff for an NFL team.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports RG3 is scheduled to work out with the Los Angeles Chargers on Tuesday. Schefter notes Griffin III has been training in Florida with his old assistant, Pep Hamilton, who was with the Cleveland Browns last year.

The last time we heard Griffin III’s name in any serious report it was back in May when Pete Carroll mentioned the Seattle Seahawks were not ruling out both RG3 and Colin Kaepernick as backups to Russell Wilson.

Last season was supposed to be his chance to prove his worth after being shelved in Washington. But an injury right out of the gate put a quick end to Griffin’s tenure with the Browns.

In limited action, RG3 completed 59.2 percent of his passes for 886 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions. He was released after the season, and he’s been pretty well neglected up to this point.

Los Angeles might be the perfect spot for the former Rookie of the Year. Philip Rivers is firmly entrenched as the starter and has been remarkably resilient throughout his career. Though, behind him the Chargers don’t currently have anyone who would frighten NFL defenses.
