Report: Pelicans meeting with Rajon Rondo about potential one-year deal

Rajon Rondo

The New Orleans Pelicans are reportedly meeting with free agent point guard Rajon Rondo Thursday about potentially bringing him in on a one-year deal.

Zach Lowe of ESPN first reported this news, with Adrian Wojnarowski adding there is “real traction on a possible deal” and that the Pelicans see Rondo and Jrue Holiday as a great pairing on the court together.

Rondo is obviously at the tail end of his career, which is why it makes sense that this would be a one-year rental. The Pelicans are still a relatively young team that could definitely use a veteran with playoff experience on their roster.

Last year in Chicago, Rondo averaged 7.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 1.4 steals per game. He was a driving force in the Bulls’ playoff run, and they actually had the Boston Celtics on the run until Rondo’s season-ending thumb injury occurred.

He’s still a very good distributor who loves to drive and dish, and he could fit very well with the lineup New Orleans features with twin towers Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins.
