Report: Knicks not willing to part with Kristaps Porzingis in Kyrie Irving trade

Kristaps Porzingis is a name to watch as NBA trades go down

The NBA world was set ablaze Friday afternoon with reports surfacing that All-Star Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving has requested a trade. It seemingly came out of nowhere. But since this dramatic development, reports have surfaced as to which teams Irving himself would want to play for.

Surprisingly enough, that list includes the New York Knicks.

The obvious player being bandied about in a potential deal to send Irving to New York is Carmelo Anthony. After all, Anthony himself has the support of LeBron James. Though, it seems highly unlikely that New York would be able to acquire Irving for Anthony straight up. Instead, the idea of moving Kristaps Porzingis has come up once again.

Until now.

“The Knicks, obviously, have strong interest in Kyrie Irving (just like 29 other teams) but I’m told people in the Knicks front office would not be willing at this point to include Kristaps Porzingis in a trade,” ESPN’s Ian Begley reported Friday evening. “Some with the organization would be willing to include future first-round picks and Carmelo Anthony in a deal for Irving.”

Former Knicks president Phil Jackson had placed Porzingis on the trade block. But after he left the team, it was readily apparent the Knicks were intent on keeping the youngster.

From a Cavaliers perspective, they would surely want more in return for Irving than a watered-down version of Carmelo Anthony.
