Report: Derek Fisher formally charged with two counts of DUI

Derek Fisher

Former NBA star and coach Derek Fisher infamously flipped his Cadillac on June 4, preempting an arrest on suspicion of DUI.

Almost one month later, Fisher has been formally charged with two counts of DUI stemming from that incident, per TMZ Sports.

“If convicted on both counts of DUI, Fisher faces up to 6 months in jail — but since it’s his first offense, he most likely won’t spend a single minute behind bars. Instead, he’ll probably get probation, fines and orders to complete an alcohol education class.”

The scary crash miraculously didn’t involve anyone else and didn’t cause significant injuries to Fisher and his girlfriend, Gloria Govan. After the accident, they issued a tepid statement that indicated they were glad nobody was injured but which did not address the arrest for suspicion of DUI.

“We are beyond grateful that we are both OK and no one else was involved,” Fisher and Govan said in a joint statement.

Now that Fisher has officially been charged, we hope he’ll issue a statement that addresses his mistake a bit more head on.

Fisher served as an in-studio Los Angeles Lakers analyst for Spectrum SportsNet during the 2016-17 NBA season. A five-time NBA champion with the Lakers, he played in the NBA for nearly two decades and spend time as the head coach of the New York Knicks.
