Report: Carmelo Anthony not interested in returning to the Knicks

Could Carmelo Anthony be moved next?

Even with nemesis Phil Jackson no longer leading the New York Knicks, it appears that future Hall of Fame forward Carmelo Anthony has no interest in returning to the Big Apple. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Anthony himself wants out of dodge.

“Carmelo Anthony has made it clear to (the Knicks): I want to go to Houston, I am not interested in talking to you about being reincorporated back into this New York roster,” the NBA insider reported. “Houston is now prepared for the fact that these negotiations with the Knicks could run through August, September, into possibly the start of training camp as New York tries to rebuild Melo’s value.”

Anthony has already indicated he would waive his no-trade clause in order to be traded to either the Houston Rockets or Cleveland Cavaliers. But it doesn’t appear that the Knicks and new general manager Scott Perry are willing to cater to Anthony’s wishes. For his part, Knicks president Steve Mills has not ruled out Anthony returning next season (more on that here).

Sure the Rockets would love to work something out with New York, but there doesn’t seem to be a whole lot going on there. It will surely be interesting to see what transpires during the remainder of the summer. Though, we now clearly know Anthony wants to move on.
