It is not uncommon for fans to name their children after their favorite professional athletes.  Jordan became a very popular name during Michael Jordan’s time in the NBA. There are many boys and girls in the Indianapolis area named Peyton.

The same can probably be said for star players of several sports teams across the country. But a fan of the Carolina Panthers took the name game to a whole new level.

DeeJay Howell and his wife welcomed a son into the world on July 1 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center. To show his support for the Panthers, he decided to go with a unique name.

“I wanted him to have the same name as mine,” Howell said, via Adam Lawson at Upstate.com. “I was watching the OTAs and I seemed more and more hyped about the football season coming up. I thought what better way than to name him after our two future stars?”

He named his new baby boy Cameron Luuuke Howell after Panthers quarterback Cam Newton and linebacker Luke Kuechly. As for the spelling, it wasn’t a mistake.

“Put two on there and people will think we misspelled it or something,” DeeJay Howell said. “Three seems more intentional. I want to give props to Luke and his career that he’s had.”

Cute idea but it will be interesting to hear what his son thinks when he’s a teenager.
